Aside from being one of the best coaches in the NFL, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is one of the best follows on Twitter as well. The quirky Wade somehow manages to sum up the feelings of Rams fans with the simplest of tweets.
The most recent example was his endorsement of superstars Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald as MVP’s. However, he also suggested a new method to the award on his official Twitter account as well:
I think there should be an NFL offensive MVP and a defensive MVP. Gurley/Donald

There is certainly plenty of truth to Phillips’ theory. The NFL’s annual MVP award is usually designated for the league’s most prolific quarterback. Meanwhile, defensive players are hardly ever even held in the conversation.
However, that has not stopped either player from putting in a strong bid for the prestigious honor. Gurley currently leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,305) and total touchdowns (19). Meanwhile, Donald has been every bit as dominant on the defensive end.with 11.0 sacks and a career-high five forced fumbles. Although he has long been a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, he finally started to get some clout thanks to the Rams’ success.
Since Phillips’ suggestions are a longshot to be taken into consideration, the best he can hope for is if they were to win Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors. As of right now, there is no denying that both make some strong cases.
