Despite a Week 11 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Los Angeles Rams are still the favorite to win the NFC West title during the 2017 NFL season. Under Sean McVay and Wade Phillips, the Rams are playing well on both sides of the field and have earned some respect around the league.
Los Angeles boasts one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses as they have been able to light up most opponents every week. McVay will get most of the credit for his playmaking and creativity, but it has been Jared Goff who has been able to drive the offense up the field every week.
According to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN, Torry Holt has been encouraged with Goff’s progress:
There’s some resemblance to those Rams teams when we were in St. Louis, but they still got a ways to go,” Holt told ESPN. “But I am excited about the development of Jared Goff and Sean McVay being a shot in the arm for this football team. Todd Gurley is running the ball extremely well and he’s catching the ball out of the backfield.”
Several Rams legends have been impressed with Los Angeles’ quick turnaround and for good reason. After ranking dead last in several offensive metrics during the 2016 NFL season, the Rams are suddenly lighting up scoreboards with their balanced passing and ground game.
Goff’s continued improvement will be vital if Los Angeles hopes to become a division powerhouse. They have a tough test in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints.
