The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a close game against the Washington Redskins in Week 2, losing 27-20. The defense was unable to stop Washington’s ground attack, allowing several big runs that limited Los Angeles’ opportunities to move the ball on offense.
When Sean McVay was hired, it was clear that the Rams front office was dedicated to improving the offense. During the 2017 NFL Draft, the team selected multiple receiving threats, namely wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
Kupp turned heads during the preseason, showing off his crisp route running and reliable hands when catching passes. His early success has translated to the 2017 NFL season because according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN, Kupp is the best rookie receiver through two weeks:
One of the hotter names in fantasy and more intriguing rookies, he’s one of three rookie receivers with three catches last week. He was also tied for the rookie lead in targets with six. While the Rams have Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods, Kupp is one of the guys garnering the early attention this season. He’s tied with Davis for the rookie receiver lead in receptions (seven) and leads all rookie receivers in yards (109).”
While the young receiver had a relatively quiet day against the Redskins, he has clearly established himself as Jared Goff’s favorite target. The two have built a solid rapport with one another and should continue to develop together as the season progresses.
With Kupp, Robert Woods, and Sammy Watkins, the Rams boast a much-improved receiving corps and have legitimate threats that opposing defenses will need to scheme for. Los Angeles faces off against a struggling San Francisco 49ers team in Week 3 and should take care of business.
