Prior to the Los Angeles Rams dominant Week 1 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, All-Pro defensive end Aaron Donald announced his return to the team. The news came as music to the Rams ears, who’s defense is now even better after a spectacular showing in their 2017 NFL season opener.
Although it was expected that Donald would be available for their Week 2 matchup versus the Washington Redskins, head coach Sean McVay officially confirmed his status for Sunday’s game, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter:
Sean McVay says Aaron Donald will start this Sunday. No declaration on how many snaps he will play.

While Donald is expected to start, McVay still has not given a number on how many snaps he will get in Week 2. After sitting out the entire preseason, Donald has not seen any live-game action and is surely going to need some time to get acquainted.
Regardless, having arguably the best defensive player in the NFL to anchor the defense is an immediate upgrade to an already solid defense. Donald’s return came just in time for McVay’s showdown with his former team.
The Wade Phillips-effect has seemingly begun after the defense performed better than any other team in Week 1. Phillips has already expressed how giddy he is to have the three-time Pro Bowler back.
