With All-Pro defensive end Aaron Donald still absent from practice in the week leading up to their first game of the 2017 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams were looking for any bit of good news. Fortunately, recent reports suggest they may have found some.
The Indianapolis Colts were optimistic about quarterback Andrew Luck’s return from a surgically-repaired right shoulder in time for their Week 1 showdown versus the Rams. However, Colts general manager Chris Ballard confirmed that Luck has been ruled out for the 2017 NFL season opener, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport:

Veteran quarterback Scott Tolzien is expected to make the start for Luck for the time being. The former undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin has already served as a journeyman with four teams in his seven-year career. Indianapolis also recently traded for former New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett, likely in response the Luck’s injury update.
The news is a sigh of relief for Rams fans everywhere that are hoping to see their team get off to a winning start after an abysmal 2016 campaign. With the Colts’ franchise quarterback officially ruled out, Los Angeles is in a good position to start the season 1-0.
