With the end of July nearing, teams will commence offseason training camps to prepare for the upcoming 2017 NFL season. For the Los Angeles Rams, the new season marks a fresh start under head coach Sean McVay and a chance to bring winning football back to Los Angeles.
Despite McVay’s young age, the head coach is thought to be a major piece in Jared Goff’s development process. After working with Kirk Cousins in Washington, the Rams head coach has an opportunity to mold Goff into the quarterback that many projected him to be during his time in college. However, according to Herd with Colin Cowherd, Eric Dickerson believes the team should start the year with a different signal caller:

After being selected with the No. 89 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Mannion has yet to see much playing time as he has made only one appearance in each of the last two seasons. After Case Keenum was demoted to second-string quarterback during the 2016 season, it was Goff who got the starting nod.
With the expectation that Goff will be the team’s starting quarterback this upcoming season, Mannion will struggle again to find time on the field. While Dickerson is high on Mannion, the rest of the Rams organization will continue to focus on developing the first overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
