Rams Rumors: ‘No Chance’ Los Angeles Pursues Tony Romo

With free agency approaching, the Los Angeles Rams have a laundry list of spots to fill before the upcoming 2017 NFL season. From wide receivers to the secondary and of course the offensive line, the Rams must tread carefully as they prepare to spend this offseason.

Another question looming over new head coach Sean McVay is whether or not the team will look to add a veteran quarterback like Tony Romo to help bring some stability to the offense. However, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, the Rams will not take part in the Romo sweepstakes come free agency:

Rams sources say no chance they test the waters on Tony Romo.

Despite Los Angeles being in desperate need of a consistent signal-caller, the fact that McVay is confident rolling with the quarterback duo of Jared Goff and Sean Mannion should certainly be encouraging for Rams fans. They should also be relieved that the team will focus on addressing other personnel issues rather than wasting more resources on a quarterback who is on his way out of the league.

Goff got out to a rough start for his professional career after he was thrown in midway through the season. The former first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft struggled mightily behind arguably the worst combination of offensive line and wide receiving corps in the league. He started seven games and finished with just over 1,000 yards passing, five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Meanwhile, Mannion has yet to show what he can do in an actual regular season game. He certainly impressed during the Rams debut in the Los Angeles Coliseum, where he led the team to a come-from-behind victory against the Dallas Cowboys. Given the investment in Goff, it makes sense that McVay will have him as the primary starter. However, should Goff continue to struggle, do not be surprised to see Mannion under center come Week 1.
