After a short stint with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, former Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will be a free agent once again according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com via Twitter:

Once Asomugha was cut by the Eagles back in March, the four-time All-Pro became a free agent with little interest around the league. After no longer being considered a hot commodity on the free agent market, the 49ers rolled the dice on the veteran corner, but he failed to make an impact and therefore will be replaced by Eric Wright.

As arguably the worst free agent signing in franchise history for the Eagles (five years at $60 million), Asomugha proved to the majority of the league that he simply wasn’t the same dominant player he once was while with the Oakland Raiders. During Asomugha’s time in Oakland, it could be argued that he was the best corner in the business.

Asomugha’s reputation as an elite corner didn’t transcend in Philadelphia nor was he able to rebuild it back in the Bay Area with the 49ers.

With Asomugha back on the open market, it’ll be interesting to see if the Raiders show interest in a reunion after the worst loss of the season due to the inability of the defense to contain Nick Foles and the Eagles offense.
