The 2023 NFL Playoffs have truly had some unbelievable moments. With no clear favorite in the AFC or the NFC it was truly must-see television that hasn’t disappointed.
In the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles held the best record in the NFL all season long. While the NFC East champions struggled coming into the playoffs, thanks in large part to a shoulder injury to quarterback Jalen Hurts, they immediately righted the ship once the playoffs began.
The Eagles dominated the division rival New York Giants in the divisional round 38-7 led, of course, by their dominant rushing attack. The Eagles rushed for 268 yards led by the duo of Kenneth Gainwell and Miles Sanders who combined for 202 yards on the ground. Their defense also stepped up, holding the Giants to just 227 yards of total offense.
Standing in their way to making their second Super Bowl appearance in six years is the San Francisco 49ers, the hottest team in the league. The Niners come into this contest on a 12-game win streak and have looked even better since rookie quarterback Brock Purdy took over under center due to injury.
The Niners boast the best defense in the league and it has been on full display in these playoffs. They used a dominant second half to take out the Seattle Seahawks in the wildcard round 41-23, and the defense was even more dominant in the divisional round against the high-powered Dallas Cowboys offense.
San Francisco held Dallas to under 300 yards of total offense while forcing two turnovers to come away with a 19-12 victory to bring them here. With a plethora of offensive weapons led by Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, San Francisco is capable of beating any team in a multitude of ways.
Over in the AFC, it is a rematch of last year’s Championship game as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals. Last season, the Bengals shocked the Chiefs with a comeback 27-24 win to send them to the Super Bowl and they will hope to repeat that outcome.
The Bengals survived a battle-tested Baltimore Ravens team in the wildcard round before dominating the Buffalo Bills on the road 27-10 to punch their ticket to this round. Joe Burrow has turned into one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks and has a ton of weapons at his disposal led by Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, as well as running back Joe Mixon.
The Chiefs have been one of the Super Bowl favorites all season long led by MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes at quarterback. As usual, the Chiefs offense is one of the league’s best with tight end Travis Kelce being basically unguardable. After last season’s disappointment, the Chiefs will surely be looking for revenge and a trip to their third Super Bowl in five seasons.
