Teams around the league have had to take unprecedented action in preparation for the 2020 NFL Draft in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Los Angeles Rams are confident that the restrictions have only served as a minor obstacle throughout the process and that the biggest challenge for the league will be from a technical standpoint. This year’s remote draft is not expected to hold many teams back from taking an aggressive approach.
For the Rams, it seems patience will be the key considering they traded their next two first-round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. As a result, quarterback Jared Goff will maintain his status as the team’s last first-round pick as they prepare to once again watch the opening day of the draft unfold without any action for the fourth year in a row.
Fortunately, the extra day of preparation does allow Los Angeles to gain a better idea of how the draft board is playing out. After all, they will be quite busy trying to make the most out of their four picks in the second and third rounds combined. General manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay have managed to find a number of hidden gems in these rounds in recent years and they will need to work their magic once again following a disappointing offseason in free agency.
The Rams will have three picks to work with on the last day of the draft to help them fill the notable voids on their roster. Despite all the significant changes to their personnel, expectations remain as high as ever as they get set to open the 2020 NFL season in their new home at SoFi Stadium.
